How do I get a job in real estate?

To work in real estate in Queensland, even if you’re in a real estate administration role (also known as corporate support), the REIQ recommends you attain a Registration Certificate. This is because to speak to anyone about a property listed for sale (even if it’s only on the phone) you are required to have a current Registration Certificate. This is a great way to start in real estate, because it;’s the same qualification that lets you work as a real estate salesperson or as a property manager.

To start your career in Queensland real estate, you should:

1. Complete the REIQ Real Estate Registration course
2. Get a grade of "competent" on course assessments, and the REIQ will give you a "Statement of Attainment"
3. Apply to the Office of Fair Trading for your Real Estate Registration Certificate!

It’s a negotiating tool because it makes your career more portable, as you can work independently. With a Full Licence you could work as a contractor or open your own real estate business.
